In 2004, The Art Gallery of Ontario embarked on a dramatic $276 million redevelopment and revitalization project, aptly named Transformation AGO. Conceived in full by world renowned architect, Frank Gehry, the project included the demolition of a postmodernist wing built in 1992, and a substantial expansion. Contracted together with international showcase manufacturer, Click Netherfield, Maltbie worked intimately with architects from Gehry International for nearly two years in design development, production and installation of some of the most cutting edge museum casework in the world. The team’s work comprises more than eighty-five showcases in total throughout the AGO, including six spectacular curved glass cases that are simultaneously curvilinear and undulating in nature. There are simply no other showcases like these in existence. These cases, along with eleven other freestanding cases, house the Thomson collection of ship models.
